[YTB Tutorial Texturing skills] in Substance 3D Designer

Techniques helping with shape inflation and deflation https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-toy9WMImypmLAiU9h_SzQ The slope blur serves as inflating and deflating soft shapes and height maps. Its node changes and inputs are based on the slope of a grayscale input image. Instead of just moving or distorting shapes, it creates an interesting smearing or fading effect. The “Intensity” slider is for using positive and negative values. A larger intensity means the effect is pushed out further from the original shape. Mode adjusted the blending mode of the blur passes. Among these types, “Min” eats away existing areas while “Max” mirrors out white areas. And “Blur” eats away and smear Techniques helping with adding smaller details to shapes: The multi-directional warp node is a great node to warp shapes in an interesting way. It distorts the shape in a few set directions based on an intensity input. Among the types of “Mode”, “Average” is more of a soft distortion ; “Min” still eats away....

[YTB Tutorial Topology and bevel skills] in Blender

Image
A better topology method at the corner https://youtu.be/tfmmZ5vdzjk?si=GC9c9sVBwlKxztWd When processing loop edges at transitions, never place the 'crossing' structural lines adjacent to the transition points. Instead, for an optimal shading effect, direct the two extended lines to converge in opposite directions along the common normal (press GG to slide them). Bevel skill 1 When beveling using the modifier, change the Miter Outer from "Sharp"  to "Arc" to achieve visually comfortable edges. To obtain a flat shading effect, check the option "Harden Normal(s)". Bevel skill 2 To prevent triangular faces inside bevel structures, ensure an even number of "Segments". Bevel skill 3 To create a perfect bevel, set the "Shape" value in the "Profile" column to between 0.6 and 0.7 , a bit higher than the default value.

Critical Analysis of Cyberpunk 2077

Image
Cyberpunk 2077 Advantages and lessons to be learned Cyberpunk 2077 is undoubtedly a milestone cultural work in digital art, world-building, and technological exploration 2077 achieves next-gen graphics standards with its physics-based rendering and cinematic lighting that create breathtaking Night City spectacles. The omnipresent neon lights vividly embody the cyberpunk aesthetic core. In narrative, the game employs a "dual consciousness" approach, allowing players to coexist with Johnny's digital soul and experience the memories and emotions of both characters through deep immersion. Furthermore, 2077 explores philosophical questions by bringing classic cyberpunk sci-fi themes back into public discourse. Through a series of plotlines, it exposes sharp class conflicts and shatters the utopian illusions of technological progress. Deficiencies and issues to be resolved The game exposed numerous performance issues and bugs during its initial release, severely undermining th...

Critical Analysis of Half-Life Alyx

Image
Half-Life: Alyx Advantages and lessons to be learned The success of Half-Life: Alyx lies in its near-obsessive redefinition of VR experience standards through its physicality and spatiality. The game masterfully employs embodied narrative techniques to heighten player engagement. Through body-oriented perspectives and controls in pivotal scenes, it creates immersive sensory experiences while preventing motion sickness. The level design features meticulously crafted environments that progressively intensify a sense of oppression and dread. In terms of storytelling, most in-game objects are highly interactive, weaving together to form a subtle narrative thread that satisfies players' exploration needs. Deficiencies and issues to be resolved However, Half-Life: Alyx suffers from its narrative shortcomings. As a prequel to a known game ending, it naturally lacks sufficient narrative suspense, making it more of a nostalgic fan-made project. Additionally, the game's mechanics restr...

Critical Analysis of Control

Image
Control   Advantages and lessons to be learned Control is a visually and conceptually ambitious masterpiece. It successfully extends the theme of 'control' from narrative and visual aspects to gameplay and system design. The game constructs a grand "New Monster Tales" universe, embedding story fragments within collectible documents and materials for players to freely explore. Aesthetically, it breaks away from crude realism by blending surrealism and threshold spaces to create a distinctive artistic style. Technically, it ranks among the first commercial games to fully support ray tracing, delivering refined reflections, diffuse reflections, and layered lighting effects that enhance immersive scene experiences. Moreover, the game features exceptional local effects, with the splattering particle effects in combat scenes masterfully blending brutal aesthetics with a supernatural ambiance. Deficiencies and issues to be resolved However, the game's over-reliance on frag...

Working Technical Prototype Video ( UnityXR )

Working Technical Prototype: Core Mechanics & Atmospheric Lighting in Unity Introduction   After the initial concept creation, I shifted my focus to the technical prototype creation in Unity. At this stage, my goals were divided into two parts: verifying the feasibility of the VR interaction mechanism using the Unity XR Interaction Toolkit and shaping the atmosphere of the in-VR visuals.   Video    YouTube Link:  https://youtu.be/51kZ6SBiWeE
